How Drift works: from your question to a lawyer consultation

A step-by-step guide to Drift’s source-backed immigration information, lawyer matching, booking, payment and consultation process.

Drift helps you understand the immigration process, organise your situation and reach an independent immigration lawyer. Here is what happens from your first question to the consultation.

1. Start with your question

You chat with Drift’s AI assistant. It can explain general German immigration routes, procedures and terminology using identifiable legal and official sources. You are interacting with AI, not a lawyer.

You do not need to know the name of a visa or legal process. Describe what has happened and what you want to achieve.

2. Get useful, source-backed information

Drift can explain which processes may be relevant and what an independent lawyer could potentially help with. It cites the sources behind important immigration information so you can check them yourself.

This is general information—not a personalised assessment, legal advice or a guarantee of an outcome.

3. Tell us only what is needed

The assistant may ask focused questions about facts such as nationality, location, current status, dates and your goal. Do not share more personal information than the question requires.

If there is a deadline, refusal, uncertain work or travel right, detention or removal risk, tell us immediately. Drift will recommend urgent human or legal support where appropriate.

4. Review your case summary

Drift can turn what you have told us into a short, AI-assisted summary of the facts, dates and questions. You can correct it before it is shared. The summary is not a legal assessment.

5. See a matched lawyer

Drift matches using relevant criteria such as jurisdiction, immigration-law experience, language and current availability. We show a Drift lawyer profile with verifiable professional information and explain why the match may fit.

The lawyer remains independent and decides whether they can accept the consultation or any later mandate.

6. Book through Drift

When a suitable appointment is available, you can choose a time in the Drift booking experience. The booking confirmation contains the practical details for the consultation.

You can use the links in your confirmation email to reschedule or cancel, subject to the cancellation terms shown when you book. If the link does not work, contact Drift support.

7. Confirm the consultation payment

Payment instructions are shown or sent separately after booking. For now, Drift collects only the consultation fee through the approved checkout for the matched lawyer. Card details are handled by the payment provider and are not shared with the lawyer through the case summary.

Your appointment is confirmed according to the payment and booking instructions you receive. Further legal work is never added automatically.

8. Speak with the lawyer

The independent lawyer reviews the information as a starting point, checks conflicts and applies their own professional judgment. Personalised legal advice begins with the lawyer—not in the AI chat.

If you want help beyond the consultation, the lawyer explains the possible scope, price and engagement terms before starting. The lawyer controls the legal advice, strategy and representation.

9. Get help when plans change

For booking, payment or platform questions, contact Drift. For legal advice or work already accepted by a lawyer, contact the lawyer directly. Our cancellation and refund policy explains the applicable rules.

In one sentence

Drift provides source-backed general information, preparation, matching and booking; independent licensed lawyers provide personalised legal advice and representation.
